Heritage
Trail Location 7 - The Kinema in the Woods
Britain's only rear projection cinema. Started by
Captain, later Major Allport in 1922.
The building was originally (pre 1900), a farm
building, and by 1900, was used as a Concert Pavilion, before becoming
the tennis, and later (1906) the cricket pavilion for the Spa Grounds. The
Kinema in the Woods was frequently referred to as the 'The Flicks
in the Sticks' during the Second World War.
Today
with its unique back projection, and the opening of a second screen
in 1994, you can catch all the latest movies, as well as some timely
classics.
It is
unusual, to say the least, that a village the size of Woodhall
Spa has its very own Kinema (the name deriving from the kinematics
rather than the cinematic projection technique).
