Woodhall

| Jubilee Park Open Air Heated Swimming Pool |
| |
We should all be highly delighted that the ELDC accepted the arguments put forward by the Friends of Jubilee park (FOJP), backed by the Parish Council, for a stainless steel liner and deck-level gutter system for our pool. This will cost only marginally more than a traditional tiled refurbishment yet give far superior advantages of:
A 25-30 year (or more) life expectancy!
Very low maintenance costs!
Top-class water-quality - yet using less sterilising chemicals!
Improved heating efficiency!
No additional glare!
Extreme frost-resistance!
A simplified high-speed construction system - almost immune to bad weather hold-ups!
A technologically cutting-edge pool with iridescent colour effects that have to be seen to be believed!
For an idea of what it might look like visit the FOJP web page
Over a thousand pools like this have been installed on the Continent – many of us have already swum in them! Now we are probably going to get one - one of the first lidos in the country!
The children’s paddling pool, already much-improved last year by now having the same water-temperature as the adult pool, will retain it’s traditional construction but will be modernised to have the latest non-slip surface and water fun-games!
The changing rooms will be improved to allow for better and easier cleaning by staff, giving improved hygiene benefits as well as lowering running costs! The building will be updated, to provide, if technically possible, an additional family changing area as well as retaining the existing separated sex areas!
The spending of £1.54 million by ELDC on the swimming pool area has the potential to attract other funding for the many improvements identified by the FOJP in their ‘3 Options Appraisal’ of Jubilee Park. This important document can be viewed on the FOJP page
ELDC are currently seeking accurate costings for these options, so all these proposals are subject to detailed cost estimates and/or tenders being within expected limits. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they are! |

| Woodhall Spa Country Show 2008 |
|
| |
|
Broken cloud and a cool wind did not deter large numbers of visitors from a good day out at the Woodhall Spa Country show on Sunday 18th May. Final numbers are not yet available, but event chairman John Michael believes that they will exceed those of last year.
“Every area that you visited seemed to be full of people,” he said, “and most of the ones I talked to said they were really pleased with the show and the attractions that were there.”
Stallholders were also happy with the business that was done, and the interest expressed in the products on show.
“We don’t expect to make many sales at the events,” commented a furniture exhibitor, “but we do find that people come back to us later to make purchases in store, when they have a bit more time to look at all the items we have to offer.”

Spa 10k Road Race - 1st June 2008 |
| |
We had a very successful day yesterday with a record number of entrants – 1080, then a further 280 or so in the Fun Run. So, Woodhall has now tripled it’s number of competitors over the last few years – we must be doing something right!
A big thank you to all the helpers out there yesterday morning – some 90 of you all told – without your support we couldn’t stage the event.
Can I thank members of the 10K Committee who give their time to the event: Chris Hibberd, Graham MacRury, Gary Burgess, Trevor Hiatt, Bob Pinning and Simon Elmer.
The positive feedback we are getting is very good news – the fact that our event is run just by volunteers as opposed to others which are managed by city councils; and, that we score well against such events is a big compliment to Woodhall.
All the money we make we give to local good causes and we know they make that money go a long way.
If you represent a local good cause and would like to be considered for a donation please do contact us – be prepared to be asked to man a water station!
A big thank you to everyone once again.
For final results, race feedback and photos please visit the dedicated page |

| Woodhall Spa reaches the 2nd round of the Best Kept Village Competition 2008 |
| |
Your help is requested with litter picking, organised by the Parish Council. Organised litter picking did take place from the 2nd to the 8th June, but the weather was so bad the work continues. The aim is simple….to tidy the village in advance of the judging for the 2nd round of Best Kept Village in July. All necessary bags, gloves, litter pickers, insurance, briefing on areas etc will be provided by the Parish Council, all you will need to do is decide on which day of the week you could assist us and provide lots of willing hands!
Once litter is removed we hope the village will remain litter free, but are realistic and know another “blast” may be needed in the future!
On a personal note we are also asking each Woodhall resident during that week to look at their own properties and clear any rubbish and ensure Woodhall is looking its best! Please pass the message on. If you are willing to help, please contact Jo Nelstrop on 01526 354107 or 07795 396 979 or joanna@thenelstrops.com or Daphne Robinson on 01526 354385 or daphnejrobinson@btinternet.com |

| Woodhall Spa Library |
| |
A meeting was held in Woodhall Spa Parish Council office on 28th May at 7.30p.m. with the aim of forming a "Friends of the Library Group" to support the library and form community links.
This group has now formed and now has its own dedicated page on the website
The library petition against recently imposed cuts in opening hours was given to the Leader of the County Council, Councillor Martin Hill on Wednesday, 14th May with an accompanying letter on the community's behalf from the Chairman of the Parish Council, Councillor Audrey Pestell. The letter requests answers to the questions raised by the community regarding the Fundamental Library Review, which despite a public meeting with County Library officials in attendance, still remain unanswered. Copies of the letter were also sent to the County Council's Chief Executive, Tony Mc Ardle and Sir Peter Tapsell M.P. Sir Peter has already responded asking for a copy of the County Council's Response.
Since then the group has had its first Success!
It will open for an extra 2 hours per week starting the week of 11 Aug. When should those hours be? A questionnaire will be available in the library until 2 Aug for you to express your view, or use the feedback form on the Friends of Woodhall Spa Library page

| Woodhall
Spa Twinning Association |
| |
The
Woodhall Spa Twinning Association celebrated the 20th anniversary
of the twinning with Roëzé-sur-Sarthe in May of 2007 and in August
of this year will be going over to Roëzé to be entertained by their
French friends at *their* 20th anniversary celebrations. Woodhall Spa
Twinning is always looking for new members and if anyone is interested
please contact the current chairman Jack Baker on Woodhall Spa
352997.
The villagers of Roëzé always extend a warm welcome to us and
it is certain that the celebrations will be something special. The
twinning is a wonderful opportunity to experience the culture of
this delightful part of France, sample the wines and, if any of your
children are looking to take "O-level" French at school,
this is the best way to learn to speak French as the French do |
