| Community Treasure Box Project |
| |
Members of the Museum’s learning team are involved in a major project, with St. Andrew’s Primary School and community groups within Woodhall Spa. The activities are based around the fact that our village and its community is a treasure to be cared for and celebrated.
There are five strands in the project:
Every child in the school is producing their own treasure box in which their ‘memories’ and treasured things connected with Woodhall Spa will be placed. Invitations have also been sent to community groups inviting them to participate in the project by producing treasure boxes, representative of their organization, its history and its connection to Woodhall Spa.
The museum is producing a learning activity conveying the fact that it is a repository of personal memories and information relating to the history of the village.
The school is producing a treasure box containing resources to welcome children from different cultural backgrounds.
The Community Engagement team and Saudi families are producing resources connected with a traditional story to be used by the museum team as a teaching and learning activity.
The children are producing their own ‘Treasure Box, web site for visitors and families moving into the village.
A community exhibition was held in the museum from 24th January – 7th February 2009. |

 Marjorie
Sergeant 's books
< 'Woodhall Spa & the World 1885-1890
in the "NEWS" The book tells of the days over 100 years
ago when the Horncastle News was first launched.
Marjorie's
previous research roused her interest in the back issues of the
Horncastle News, and she realised there was another story to tell
about the days, over 100 years ago, when the style and language
of the local newspaper was quite different. This
book was the second published by Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum of which
Marjorie is a Trustee, consists of 144 pages and covers the first
five years of this fledgling newspaper. It gives an insight into
the social conditions of the time and a fascinating picture from
the reports of world and local news, illustrated with relevant
old photographs. Written
with humour and a profound understanding of what makes a good yarn..
"Woodhall Spa Past and Present", Marjorie Sargeant's latest book was launched at Macauley's Tea House in the Woods on Saturday 1st Nov 2008 >.
Marjorie
is a retired school teacher who has lived in and around Woodhall
Spa for many years. She has already written 'A Century of Golf
at Woodhall Spa' and 'Voices of Woodhall Spa - a century of memories'.
All these books are on sale throughout the district for about £9. Contact

| "Why Woodhall Spa?" DVD launched on 25th April 2009 |
| |
|
This DVD tracing the history of Woodhall Spa through to the present day was produced for the Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum by the Philip Groves Studio. It is the latest in the Cottage Museum publications which sets out to save folk memory of Woodhal Spa heritage for future generations.
Chairman of the Cottage Museum David Radford paid tribute to community volunteers who have freely given of their time and effort to the heritage project since 1985. In particular he praised Philip Groves and his wife Delia of the Philip Groves Studio who researched and produced the DVD "Why Woodhall Spa?"
"When you see the 87 engrossing minutes of "Why Woodhall Spa?" you must understand they are the tip of the iceberg in the hours spent on its production" he commented.
"Why Woodhall Spa?" will be available priced £10 at selected outlets including the Cottage Museum, The Kinema in the Woods, The English Golf Union, Woodhall Home Hardware, Martin's Newsagents and Janet's Tea Rooms. |
